Theme Park Adventure exists because of its readers. There are no two ways about it. And many of our readers love Knott's Halloween Haunt. So, years ago, we arranged for our first TPA Night at Haunt. It wasn't an event gathering that was proposed - it was an after-Haunt get-together at a nearby Denny's. TPA arrived at about 2:00 A.M. and waited. And waited. And waited. At almost 4:30 A.M., we left without welcoming a single soul to our table. It was disappointing, embarrassing and it signaled the last time we attempted such a meet for years. Only recently, we attempted the TPA Night again - and it was a success. Our coverage has gotten bigger and better over the years - and so has our readership. In the past several years, Theme Park Adventure has introduced many "Haunt virgins" to the Scary Farm - from the United Kingdom to San Francisco, we have brought new blood to the sacrificial alter that is the Haunt. And we've thrown those noobs to the monsters lurking in the fog without hesitation! TPA Night is now an anticipated event - both by fans and members of the Haunt family. The gathering begins before Haunt at the VIP Pre-Scare Dinner. This year, our own staff member, Elly Thomas even went so far as to create a raffle - to give away prizes that she purchased herself for this occasion; a truly cool gesture and a first for a TPA gathering. The prizes included a "Haunt Is..." tote bag and even a "Let's Get To Killin'" thong. Yes... the THONG. That prize went to our very own Silbakor - the master of all things porn! Yeah... it's a long story; just run with it. After a good feed at the VIP Pre-Scare, we gathered for a group shot and then headed out into the fog. We waited near the entrance to The Gauntlet for those to join us that did not do the dinner - so we had a lot of quality time with both the Silver Bullet and Gauntlet crews. We hit all the mazes, rode the Mine Train and watched The Hanging. And yeah - it rained on us. Again. The second year in a row now - wet, wet, wet! That is why most of the pictures from TPA Night are during the dinner and after the event at the Midnight Buffet. Even though it was nasty, rainy and toward the end, windy (yeah - nipples are still chapped in some cases from the damp shirts), we had a great time as a group. New friends were made, old friends were reunited and it was an evening of sheer madness. Street monsters gathered for photos, maze monsters cheered for the group as it came through their lairs - there was an abundance of love in the air! Speaking of love, wait until you see the pictures of Psycho Mommy and DJ! The TPA family greeted and cheered for their favorite monsters - from Lucifer to Panhead. We went through The Doll Factory and gave a huge round of applause to "That Girl" as she did her thang! We also cheered on our own Bizarre, a long-time TPAer, who also works in the Factory. Our night concluded with a "Midnight Buffet" at 2:00 A.M. at the Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant. Here, our readers have the unique opportunity to meet their Haunt heroes face-to-face, minus masks or make-up. The walls come down, and for about an hour, TPA readers and Haunt monsters mingle as one family; it is truly an awesome moment - a moment that cannot be reproduced by any other site or club that comes to Haunt together. This is simply because the Haunt family and TPA family interact together all year long - and the Haunt family knows who their true fans are. It was a great event - and a wild evening that we are excited about doing all over again in 2008! And dear God - it's sick that we are even discussing this... but it looks like it will either be October 9th or 10th, 2008. Some of you sick, sick animals have just marked your calendars. Scary stuff. And now... on with the horrifying pictures. There are two sets - one from Rick West's camera and one from Elly's. Enjoy! |
