It's really hard to wrap my head around the fact that it feels just like yesterday that we completed our Halloween Haunt 2010 coverage. And here it is - another season already! In 2010, designer David Ortiz pulled the Log Ride out of its perpetual slump and breathed new life into it as Sleepy Hollow Mountain, which fans absolutely adore. Likewise, perhaps the biggest surprise of Haunt 2010 was how designer Todd Faux turned Cornstalkers from a total disaster into one of the best mazes at the Scary Farm. In what we hope is going to be lightning striking twice, both David and Todd have teamed up together to tackle the Calico Mine Train, turning it into the all-new Invasion Beneath, which will be themed as a real-time alien invasion/military operation taking place at Knott's Berry Farm inside the classic attraction. It's definitely on everyone's radar and we're crossing fingers that David and Todd can bring the Mine Train back up to Halloween Haunt greatness after years of really weak performance. Elsewhere in the Scary Farm, designer Brooke Walters unleashes a post-apocalyptic nightmare as Endgames makes its debut in an all-new maze location in Necropolis. Not since the legendary Underground has Halloween Haunt hosted this type of maze. And now, Brooke is bringing it hard as fans wait anxiously to see if she can indeed, hit three home runs in a row (2009, Terror of London; 2010 Virus Z; 2011 Endgames)! Haunt designer Daniel Miller has also created his own horrific offering for the 2011 run with what many fans anticipate to be the heavy-hitter of the year, Delirium. In a nod to the iconic Nightmares maze that held its own for many years in the '90s, Miller's new maze will take fans on a terrifying and unsettling tour through the disturbing altered reality of their darkest dreams. In a show that needs to be seen to be understood, our dear friend Marty Putz once again returns to Knott's... What wild and crazy tricks does he have up his sleeve after being gone for several years? And the burning question remains... will Haunt 2011 see the glorious return of Chubby Bunny? Turn down the lights, dear reader. Summer is gasping its final breath and the horrors of the Scary Farm are becoming restless once again. Take our hand and let us guide you into the darkness and the fog. It's Haunt time. -Rick West |
