I reflected on the past 16 years that
Theme Park Adventure has covered Knott's Halloween Haunt, and I am very
proud of our accomplishments. From the printed black and white pages of
The Braze Zone to our popular videos and maze flow-through
footage on the Internet, TPA has shared our love of all things Scary
Farm with thousands of fans world-wide in just about every way, shape
and form. But at the end of the day, when all is said and done and the last video is uploaded and the final message is tweeted, the most satisfying part of what we do is tapping into the human element of Halloween Haunt, and connecting with our readers on a personal level. I've always said that the core of Halloween Haunt's success is its crew; the men and women who give their blood, sweat and tears to Knott's and the fans to make the Scary Farm really amazing and special. It is the human aspect of Halloween Haunt that really puts it in a class of its own when it comes to the dark industry. Many of Haunt's devoted employees haven't just worked the event for a couple of years - it is actually very common for Haunt veterans to have worked decades at the event without any sign of slowing down or losing interest in the event. The real story of Halloween Haunt is the people that bring it to life. And getting to know many of these people has been the single most important and rewarding part of Theme Park Adventure's involvement with Haunt for the past 16 years. Working closely with the men and women of Haunt, TPA has made many wonderful friends over the year - and in turn, we have said goodbye to some much too soon. Sandy Graham was known to fellow Haunt monsters and fans alike as Haunt's Queen. Not simply a vampire. Not just a Nymph. But true Knott's royalty - everyone's beloved Queen. On Sunday, August 29, 2010, we lost our beloved friend to cancer. Her passing impacted the Haunt community and indeed, Knott's has lost a cornerstone. Never will you hear an unkind word uttered about Sandy. She was everyone's best friend. No one loved being part of Halloween Haunt more than she did, whether it was during the build process or as part of the show each night. Sandy Graham didn't just participate in Haunt; in many ways, she was the embodiment of the Haunt family. Theme Park Adventure dedicates our 2010 coverage of Knott's Halloween Haunt to the memory of everyone's friend, Sandy Graham. We love you and miss you, dear lady. - Rick West |
